Hello!
I am Ignacio Bustamante, and I am the CEO and founder of Space Threshold. I founded this company so I could dedicate all my time and effort to pursue my passion, that is, working in the space sector in projects that I feel enthusiastic about. After years in this sector, I came to realize that these endeavours can seldom be carried out alone, so, let’s work together to achieve our goals!
I am an astrophysicist and space engineer with more than 8 years of experience in the space sector. My goal is to give assistance to projects in any step of their life cycle, from concept design and funding pursuit, to operations and maintenance, all the way through system engineering, project follow-up, requirements establishment and endorsement, and documentation.
During the years I have worked in a wide range of positions and in different projects and fields, such as:
Engineer and manager of the Remote Sensing Department at IACTEC-Space, an initiative carried out by the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), developing space instrumentation onboard small satellites in the fields of Earth Observation (EO) and Astrophysics.
Coordinator of a number of projects at a European level, elaborating and presenting proposals to different ESA calls and ITTs, establishing international consortiums, organizing stakeholders collaborations, and negotiating budget and work allocations, as well as defining the projects themselves.
Operations support and business and funding strategist for the EuroMoonMars programme.
Support researcher at the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) for the World Space Observatory - Ultraviolet mission, designing and implementing the Science Operation Center of the mission, developing scientific tools, such as a Remote Proposal System and a remote scheduler for a ground radio-telescope.
Coordinator of the Teidesat project, a student initiative with the goal of developing, implementing, launching and operating a cubesat focused on LEO-Earth optical communications using LEDs.
Astrophysics researcher during my PhD, carried out at the European Space Astronomy Center (ESAC-ESA) and at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC-Caltech), which provided me with experience in handling large databases, in data mining and in bayesian analysis techniques, applied to the study of young stellar objects and exoplanets.
The projects I have worked in during the years, both scientific and technological, have allowed me to collaborate with people from the most prestigious research institutions and space agencies. Now I want to bring those people together, and go beyond the established ideas to develop audacious new missions and solutions for the new era of space exploration which is just unveiling.
If you share my passion for space, and want to participate in these projects, do not hesitate to contact me.
Let’s bring space closer for everyone.
